Bears update Justin Fields' status after thumb injury

Published Tue, 18 Feb 2025 21:44:32 GMT

LAKE FOREST, Ill. — It looks like the Bears will not have their starting quarterback for at least this upcoming week. But head coach Matt Eberflus didn't have a long-term outlook for Justin Fields after his injury on Sunday afternoon. The third-year signal caller's dislocated thumb has made him "doubtful" for Sunday's game against the Raiders at Soldier Field and there is "no timetable" as of Monday for a return. Eberflus wouldn't rule out Fields playing Sunday, yet wouldn't rule out a long-term absence either. This came after Fields underwent an MRI on Monday after an X-ray showed no breaks at Soldier Field on Sunday."It's really going to come down to grip strength," said Eberflus about Fields' status for Sunday along with future weeks as the Bears wait for swelling around the thumb to go down.Fields was injured on the first drive of the second half of the 19-13 loss to the Vikings, leaving the game after being sacked on third down. He was replaced by rookie quarterback Tyson Bagent,...

Big dreams of an Asian mall, but the future of the St. Paul Sears site is up in the air after back-to-back sales

A sports and digital arts-focused charter school that would come complete with an adjoining community sports complex. A wellness center. A “3D theme park” geared toward entrepreneurs. A hotel, housing and parking ramp. And an international designation as the cornerstone of a “World Cultural Heritage” corridor. All of that could, in theory, take root on St. Paul’s Rice Street, alongside food courts, a mix of housing and other new additions to the shuttered Sears department store near the Minnesota State Capitol building. The future preservation and redevelopment of the Sears building remains uncertain following back-to-back property sales this spring, but new owners are advertising ambitious and wide-ranging plans hand-in-hand with local partners from the Twin Cities Chinese and Southeast Asian community. They are the latest concepts in a decade-long progression that has seen the 17-acre site reimagined every few years for a varying mix of office, retail an...

Vegas oddsmakers peg Gophers-Hawkeyes rivalry game to be near last year’s record low scoring

Las Vegas oddsmakers don’t appear to have learned a lesson.Last year, the over/under point total for the Gophers-Iowa game was set at 31 1/2 points — the lowest total for a Football Bowl Subdivision contest since betting lines started to be tracked in 1995, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.The Hawkeyes beat Minnesota 13-10 at a bitterly cold Huntington Bank Stadium last November, coming in a touchdown and two-point conversion below the over/under. The house lost money to those who didn’t see many points scored in last year’s Battle for Floyd of Rosedale. With Minnesota and Iowa’s offenses struggling again this year, the over/under has been set a notch higher, at 32 1/2. The 24th-ranked Hawkeyes (6-1, 3-1 Big Ten) are five-point favorites over Minnesota (3-3, 1-2) for the 2:30 p.m. Saturday game at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City.On Monday, Gophers head coach P.J. Fleck praised the Hawkeyes’ formula to win games: play lights-out defense and strong special teams while their offen...
