WASHINGTON (Nexstar) – Republicans on Capitol Hill say the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms is violating the Second Amendment with a new rule that took effect in 2023.“Ever since Mr. Biden took office, his administration has actively sought to infringe on this right,” Rep. Pat Fallon (R-TX) said.Republicans specifically object to a new rule applying regulations on pistol stabilizing braces. The inventor of the brace said he designed it to help disabled veterans use firearms, but Democrats say regardless of the intent, the device is used to exploit and create loopholes to gun laws.Rep. Jaime Raskin (D-MD) said this would “allow owners to turn their weapons into short barrel rifles, efficient weapons of war without triggering traditional ATF oversight.”Rep. Raskin says gun owners and sellers know and advertise the use of stabilizing braces to make pistols more accurate, and more dangerous while remaining easy to conceal.Republicans say the rule could turn Americans who alrea...

TYLER, Texas (KETK) -- The fungus called Candida Auris (or C. Auris for short), was first detected in the United States in 2016, but is now spreading at an "alarming" rate, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warned this week. CDC study warns of ‘dramatic increase’ in deadly fungus across US “It’s something we’ve been tracking for probably 10 years,” said infectious disease specialist Dr. Michelle Barron.Between 2019 and 2021, clinical cases of Candida auris tripled. The fungus has now been reported in 28 states, according to the CDC.“The fact that it’s increasing in number and also increasing in terms of where we can find it is kind of a combination that’s very disturbing,” said Dr. Bruce Hirsch at Northwell Health in New York. Candida auris is so concerning because it is often resistant to anti-fungal drugs, making it hard to treat i...

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 18:06:27 GMT

PHILADELPHIA — Wild coach Dean Evason smiled as he made a joke last week, likely because he knew it was laced with so much truth.Asked to assess the play of defenseman Jonas Brodin, who had missed a month with a lower-body injury, Evason said the Swede could miss three years and look exactly the same.“He’s such a gifted skater, right?” Evason said. “We’ve seen them all through the years. There’s just special guys that can skate like that.”There’s no doubt Brodin belongs on that short list. He dominates defensively on a nightly basis with his innate ability to stick with opposing players in open ice. His teammates often joke that he can skate backward faster than most players can skate forward.“Someone sent me a text the other day that said, ‘Is he the most underrated player in the game?’ ” Evason said. “It’s possible.”The biggest reason Brodin doesn’t get more recognition on a national sc...
