WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. health regulators are warning consumers not to use more than two dozen varieties of over-the-counter eyedrops because of the risk of infections that could lead to blindness. The Food and Drug Administration advisory applies to lubricating drops sold by six companies, including CVS Health, Target, Rite Aid and Cardinal Health. Consumers should stop using the products immediately and avoid purchasing any that remain on pharmacy and store shelves, the FDA said in a statement Friday. The agency asked the companies to recall their products last week, because FDA inspectors found unsanitary conditions and bacteria at the facility producing the drops. The FDA did not disclose the location of the factory or when it was inspected. No injuries related to the products had been reported at the time of the announcement, but the FDA encouraged doctors and patients to submit cases through the agency’s online reporting system.Earlier this year, federal officials link...Mike Preston: Cardinals defense showed the blueprint of how to slow Ravens QB Lamar Jackson | COMMENTARY

The Arizona Cardinals talked privately this past week about how they had a few new wrinkles for Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.Oh, they did.Unfortunately for the Cardinals, they didn’t have enough offense in a 31-24 loss to the Ravens at State Farm Stadium on Sunday, but they showed again the best way to attack Jackson and company. We’ve seen it before. The Los Angeles Chargers showed it in 2018. Tennessee Titans coach Mike Vrabel showed it in the 2019 playoffs. You have to keep Jackson contained in the pocket and make him beat you with his arm.Arizona was successful because they confused Jackson with different looks and coverages. Sometimes Arizona rushed only three and dropped eight, and other times they stayed with a four-man rush and had seven in the passing lanes. It doesn’t sound like anything new, but it was different than what the Cardinals had shown in previous games. If you slow Jackson, then the Ravens’ offense comes to a crawl. Baltimore certainly...Source: Josh Uche is Patriots’ most likely trade candidate ahead of deadline

A source said last week it’s “definitely possible” that the Patriots make one trade. Anything more than that would be a surprise.Uche has missed the Patriots’ last two games. He was listed on the injury report with knee and ankle ailments ahead of Week 7 and ankle and toe injuries ahead of Week 8.Related ArticlesNew England Patriots | Source: Patriots WR Kendrick Bourne suffers torn ACL, out for the season New England Patriots | Bill Belichick would like to see equal protection for Patriots players New England Patriots | Callahan: Robert Kraft should command Patriots to sell at NFL trade deadline New England Patriots | How JuJu Smith-Schuste...Source: Patriots WR Kendrick Bourne suffers torn ACL, out for the season

By TOM KRISHER (Associated Press)DETROIT (AP) — Facing the loss of another $200 million this week to a lengthy strike, General Motors CEO Mary Barra wrapped up her weekend by going to the United Auto Workers’ Detroit headquarters intent on getting a new contract.Joined by manufacturing chief Gerald Johnson at the meeting that started late Sunday, they were able to close a deal with UAW President Shawn Fain and other bargainers early Monday that should end a contentious six-week work stoppage, three people briefed on the matter said Monday. The tentative deal, which came on Fain’s 55th birthday, capped a furious few days of agreements that still need to be ratified by 146,000 UAW members at GM, Ford and Jeep-maker Stellantis. Ford agreed to a new contract last week and was followed by Stellantis on Saturday, which raised the pressure on GM to settle for essentially the same terms. All agreed to contracts that would last four years and eight months, raise general wages 25% for top assem...Fire breaks out at Borrego Springs country club

McDonald’s said it’s pumping the brakes on higher prices and focusing more on value meals after seeing a drop-off in visits by some customers. The burger giant reported better-than-expected sales in the third quarter Monday. Global same-store sales — or sales at locations open at least a year — rose 8.8% in the July-September period. That was ahead of Wall Street’s forecast of an 8% increase, according to analysts polled by FactSet. But price increases have weighed on customers. McDonald’s said its U.S. traffic fell slightly in the third quarter as it saw fewer visits from customers with annual incomes of $45,000 or less.Chief Financial Officer Ian Borden said the company did increase U.S. prices in the third quarter but at a lower rate. McDonald’s expects its U.S. prices will increase just over 10% for the full year, he said.“Inflation is starting to come down and we expect pricing to come down,” Borden said during a conference call with investors. But t...A former British cyberespionage agency employee gets life in prison for stabbing an American spy

LONDON (AP) — A former British cyberespionage employee who had become angry and resentful toward his agency’s work was sentenced Monday to life in prison for attempted murder in the vicious stabbing of an American intelligence worker assigned to the U.K.Joshua Bowles, 29, punched the woman and knifed her repeatedly in what was called a “politically motivated” attack as she left a gym March 9 in the western England town of Cheltenham, which is home to the U.K.’s electronic spy agency, Government Communications Headquarters, better known as GCHQ.“I’ve just tried to kill her,” Bowles said, according to Steve Bunn, who helped stop the attack. “It’s … good … I didn’t have a gun, isn’t it? I make a pretty (expletive) terrorist, don’t I?”Bowles will serve at least 13 years in prison before any chance at early release. The woman, identified in court only by a code number, 99230, worked for the National Security Agency, which spies on electronic communications for the ...Book Review: ‘The Warped Side of Our Universe’ a novel look at secrets of cosmos

Black holes, wormholes and other mysteries of the universe are so firmly embedded in popular culture — from Carl Sagan’s “Contact” to Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar” — that readers with no scientific background have some images in mind when the concepts are mentioned. But in “The Warped Side of Our Universe: An Odyssey Through Black Holes, Wormholes, Time Travel, and Gravitational Waves,” physicist Kip Thorne and artist Lia Halloran find a novel approach to exploring these topics in startling detail. The collaboration between the two is just as fascinating as the book itself. Thorne is among three astrophysicists who won the Nobel prize in physics in 2017 for their research into gravitational waves. For the past 13 years he and Halloran have partnered on this book as a way to explain the research that has helped shed light on the far reaches the universe.Written in verse form, Thorne’s writing is perfectly complemented by Halloran’s vivid illustrations in ...Latest news
