Police ID pregnant woman killed in DC shooting; baby in ‘critical condition’

A pregnant woman was killed and a man was wounded Thursday in what D.C. police called a “targeted” shooting by two suspects armed with what appeared to be assault rifles.The woman and the man were parked in a car in the 300 block of 37th Street SE, when another car pulled up and two armed men jumped out and opened fire, said Andre Wright, interim executive assistant police chief during a news conference.The shooting happened about 11:20 a.m.“This is a brazen act,” Wright said. “It happened in the middle of the day.”Both the woman and the man suffered several gunshot wounds. The woman, Samya Gill, 22, of Fort Washington, Maryland, was taken to the hospital in critical condition. She gave birth at the hospital, and then she died. A murder suspect was taken into custody Thursday after he allegedly led police on a chase and later crashed into another car in Raynham, leaving one of the car’s occupants with serious injuries, state police announced. State police said troopers initially saw David Lynch, 24, sitting in a BMW SUV in the parking lot of a Holiday Inn hotel in Middleborough around 3 p.m.When approached, police said Lynch rammed a pair of police vehicles and fled onto Route 44. State police said troopers pursued Lynch “for a short period of time” before they lost sight of the vehicle he was driving. East Boston residents spoke up on Thursday as they brace for the impacts of a planned nearly two-month closure of the Sumner Tunnel beginning next month. Nine people are being charged for the thefts of millions of dollars worth of memorabilia, paintings and other valuables, according to the Department of Justice.The items stolen include an Andy Warhol silkscreen, a painting done by Jackson Pollock and nine World Series rings which previously belonged to Yankees Hall of Famer Yogi Berra.The thefts spanned more than two decades and 20 different museums and institutions from Massachusetts to North Dakota, according to the U.S. attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.Some of the items had been melted down, including the nine Berra World Series rings, said U.S. Attorney Gerard M.
